Most of the presentations given at Association conferences
and seminars will be subsequently made available on the ‘Members
Only’ section of the web site. Of course, there is nothing
better than getting the information first-hand from some of Canada’s
leading experts.
Annual Governance Seminar
Given the growing importance of good governance in
all organizations the Association runs an annual Governance Seminar
under the guidance of the Governance and Law Committee. This provides
an opportunity for the boards of both Association and non-Association
members to come together to hear from the ‘best of breed’
in the field of governance. This one and a half day Seminar brings
together 100 board members and management in the port community
to debate the critical governance issues of the day.
Annual Port/Government Interface
There is much government legislation and regulation
that impacts all business enterprises and the port community is
no exception. This annual Interface brings together those doing
port-related business and senior government staff to deal with the
issues before they become problems; and to attempt to resolve issues
that are already problematic. It is a time for both sides to share
current information and propose solutions for a better public policy
environment for the port community.
Annual General Meeting
& Conference
This is a weeklong event at the end of the summer,
which has both a strong business and social program. It provides
an opportunity for all in the port community to reflect on critical
issues of the day and to network with like-minded people in the
port community. During the conference the Association holds its
AGM to report on the activities for the past year and to provide
a forecast for the upcoming year.
National Operations Seminar
Under the guidance of the National Operations
Committee, the Operations Seminar seeks to cut through the intricate
operational imperatives in the port business. There is a labyrinth
of polices and procedures from both private and public agencies
that impact business operations in one way or another. This is a
time for the practitioners to come together to share experiences
and review ‘best practices’ for conducting better business
in the port community.
