Canada Ports Group hosts 47th AGM and Conference
in Vancouver
The 47th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Association
will be held at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver from
August 2 – 6, 2005.
“We are looking forward to hosting this year’s event
and receiving all those in the port community with a common interest
in advancing key port issues,” commented Captain Gordon Houston,
President and CEO of the Vancouver Port Authority, and this year’s
Chair of the Association. This year’s Conference theme is
‘The Changing World of Ports” and it is a most appropriate
theme with so much happening in the port business around the world.
Ports are now widely viewed as Ports Make a Difference for growing domestic
and international trade.
With world trade projected to double - even triple - in the next
15 years this conference features speakers that will address increasing
concerns related to environmental stewardship; increasing demands
on port property; greater emphasis on good governance; greater regulatory
oversight; increasing vigilance on port security; the growing cruise
business; and more. In addition to a full business program the Vancouver
Port Authority has arranged for an impressive social program for
the delegates. As Gordon Houston notes: “This years conference
attendees are in for a real treat when visiting Vancouver with several
memorable events planned.”
This year’s AGM and Conference will not disappoint for those
who seek to get down to the business of ports and engage in important
dialogue on the many issues the port community must face in order
to remain competitive in the years to come.
