ACPA signs memorandum of understanding with US counterpart

At it’s 49th Annual Conference in Montreal on August 28 the Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA). The MOU establishes the basis for mutual understanding and cooperation between the AAPA and the ACPA. It provides a framework to pursue cooperative projects of mutual interest. At the signing were the current Chairs of the two Associations, Mr. Dominic Taddeo, President and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority who signed on behalf of the ACPA and Captain Allen Domaas, President and CEO of the Fraser River Port Authority, who signed as Chair of the AAPA. Kurt Nagle, President of the AAPA and Gary LeRoux, ACPA’s Executive Director, also formally endorsed the MOU.

AAPA’s Chair, Captain Domaas, commented that, ‘By working together, the two organizations can greatly increase the force and effectiveness of their efforts in key areas such as port development, cooperation with government, human capital development, port security, industrial safety and environmental quality.”

Mr. Taddeo, further added that, “The two organizations agree that the ability to achieve their individual and shared public goals will be enhanced substantially by undertaking the collaborative approach outlined in this MOU.” This is the first time that an MOU has been signed between two major marine Associations in North America. It attests to the need for increased collaboration at a time of increased global trade and a greater focus placed on security and prosperity in North America.
